FEMERA - NOVARTIS, Istanbul - Turkey 2006
Creative Direction, Campaign Development and Visual Communication
Developed for Femara, a breast cancer treatment by Novartis, this campaign was created to support a more positive and human centered approach to patient communication within a category traditionally dominated by clinical and highly technical visual language.
As Art Director, I was responsible for the development of the campaign's visual identity, communication materials, educational publications, brochures, printed assets, and overall creative direction. The project extended across multiple communication platforms, creating a consistent visual language throughout the patient and healthcare professional experience.
The creative challenge was to address a subject that is inherently emotional and often associated with fear, uncertainty, and anxiety. Rather than reinforcing these emotions, the campaign sought to communicate hope, renewal, resilience, and the possibility of life beyond diagnosis and treatment.
The visual approach intentionally moved away from conventional pharmaceutical aesthetics. Soft colour palettes, optimistic illustrations, and uplifting imagery were used to create a more approachable and reassuring experience for both physicians and patients. The prominent use of pink tones reflected not only the international visual language associated with breast cancer awareness, but also a conscious effort to create warmth, empathy, and emotional comfort throughout the communication materials.
At the centre of the campaign was a simple belief: effective healthcare communication should inform, but it should also encourage. The objective was to remind patients that treatment is not only about fighting a disease, but about preserving hope, confidence, and quality of life throughout the journey.
The result was a comprehensive communication platform designed to support both educational and promotional objectives while maintaining a compassionate and optimistic visual identity.
