Creative Direction, Campaign Development and Brand Communication Strategy
Developed for Indigo Books & Music in Toronto, this campaign was built around a simple yet powerful belief: books have the ability to expand human experience far beyond the boundaries of everyday life.
As Creative Director, I was responsible for the campaign concept, communication strategy, visual narrative, messaging platform, art direction, and overall creative development. The objective was to move beyond traditional bookstore advertising and position reading as a transformative experience capable of changing how people see themselves and the world around them.
The campaign explored the idea that while our physical surroundings may remain unchanged, literature can transport us into entirely different realities. A single book can introduce new perspectives, cultures, emotions, professions, and possibilities that would otherwise remain beyond our reach.
Whether sitting on a subway, walking through a city, or spending a quiet evening alone, readers are never limited to a single place. Through imagination, they can travel across centuries, experience unfamiliar lives, and discover worlds that exist far beyond their everyday environment.
Each visual execution was created to illustrate this transformation by blending ordinary settings with extraordinary narratives. The campaign highlighted the contrast between physical reality and the limitless worlds created through reading, reinforcing the idea that books are far more than products on a shelf. They are gateways to knowledge, creativity, discovery, and personal growth.
Rather than focusing on individual titles, the campaign celebrated the broader power of literature itself. The goal was to position Indigo not simply as a bookstore, but as a destination where imagination, curiosity, and storytelling come together to create new possibilities.
At its core, the campaign communicated a simple message:
Books have the power to take us far beyond where we are, and sometimes even beyond who we are.
